STEP 1 - WHAT ARE THE WAHA Select Tryouts?
In March, Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association will conduct tryouts to select players to compete in the WAHA Select Festivals. See the tryout locations and dates listed below. The Festivals provide a great opportunity for a player to compete, develop and be identified for USA Hockey Central District Player Development which can ultimately lead to a spot at the USA Hockey National Summer Development Camps.

There are four separate WAHA Festivals by birth year:
2000 = USA Hockey Select 14
1999 = USA Hockey Select 15
1998 = USA Hockey Select 16
1997 = USA Hockey Select 17
 
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THESE OPEN TRYOUTS?
  • Open to any USA born players with birth-dates 2000-1997 who have parents or legal guardians that are legal residents of Wisconsin
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE SELECT SKATER TRYOUTS?  HOW DO I REGISTER AND WHEN?
  • Registration is online only at www.wahahockey.com after FEBRUARY 9!
  • Skaters can only register for one tryout
  • Tryout fee is $75 – which includes ice time and a jersey
  • Use debit card, credit card or a gift card only
  • No cash or checks will be accepted
  • Participants registering must have a 2013-14 USA Hockey membership number or register through USA Hockey
  • Go to www.usahockey.com to register for member number
  • All four birth-years have one tryout at a Super Site listed:

Tryout sessions will be for skaters born in 2000, 1999, 1998 and 1997. Each birth year will be considered separately. Players may only tryout in one tryout session.
  • No refunds will be made once registered for a tryout location and time
  • Registration for each tryout location will be limited by position (D/F), therefore the number of players allowed in a tryout are not unlimited – No exceptions
  • Skaters must tryout for the position (defense or forward) they actually register for - No exceptions
  • Players will be drafted from the skater tryouts to participate in the WAHA Festivals
  • Those selected for the festivals will be contacted by email
  • To accept the opportunity, the player must register for the respective festival using a special link immediately upon notification
SPECIAL PRE-GOALTENDER TRYOUTS AND HOW DO I REGISTER?
There are four (4) goalie–only tryouts located north, central and south in the state. All tryouts will be for goalies born in 2000, 1999, 1998 & 1997 (Select 14, 15, 16, & 17). Goalies selected from these sites listed below will be assigned to teams at the super site skater tryouts to be held on March 29 and 30 at Stevens Point and Green Bay.

The PRE-GOALIE tryouts for Selects 14,15,16, & 17 will be held:
 
Sunday March 9, 6-8 pm Eau Claire & Oregon
Tuesday March 18, 5-7 pm at Stevens Point & Naga-Waukee
 
Online Registration opens FEBRUARY 10.
  • Register for one tryout only
  • Tryout fee is $25 for ice time and jersey-No refunds
  • Use debit card, credit card or a gift card (No checks or cash)
  • Participants registering must have a 2013-14 USA Hockey membership number or must register for one through USA Hockey (Go to www.usahockey.com)
  • No tryout location/date changes after registration
  • Goalies have a two-step tryout process to reach a birth year festival: Pre-Goalie Tryout selected to a Super Site Skater Tryout selected to appropriate Select Festival   
  • Goalies who are selected to participate in the Select 14-15 & 16-17 skater tryouts will be notified by email to register online using a special link. The cost is $45 online to accept and confirm their skater tryout spot. Confirmed goalies must also bring their original tryout jersey to the skater tryout. No refunds.
STEP 2 – WHAT IF YOU ARE SELECTED FOR THE WAHA SELECT FESTIVALS?
All goalies, defensemen, and forwards selected from the skater tryouts to participate in the Select Festivals will be contacted by email. The email will contain on-line registration instructions using a special link. Player registration confirms and accepts the invitation to play in a state festival. The cost to participate in the WAHA Festivals is $125. Festival players will keep their jersey and socks.

Select 14 & 15 WAHA Festivals:
There are two separate festivals: one for skaters born in 1999 and one for skaters born in 2000. Each birth year festival will include 4 teams of 17 players (2 goalies, 6 defenseman, and 9 forwards). All birth year festival teams will be drafted from the total players that participated in the Super Site tryouts in Stevens Point. The Select 14 & 15 Festivals will be April 12-13 at the Cornerstone Community Center in Green Bay.

Players born in 2000 will compete in the WAHA Select 14 Festival to be selected to the USA Hockey Central District Select 14 Elite Camp held June 15-20 in Ames, IA. See Step 3. No further steps.
 
Players born in 1999 compete in the WAHA Select 15 Festival to be selected for the USA Hockey Central District Select 15 Festival May 2-4 at Fond du Lac. From there selected players will attend the USA Hockey National Select 15 Player Development Camp. See Steps 3-4).
 
Select 16 and or 17 WAHA Festival(s):
Skaters born in 1997 and 1998 will be selected from the WAHA super site skater tryout in Green Bay. Depending on tryout numbers there will be either one festival which combines the birth-years or two birth year festivals. Festival(s) will have four teams of 17 players each (2 goalies, 6 defenseman and 9 forwards). All festival teams will be drafted from the total players that competed in the skater tryouts in Green Bay. Select 16 & 17 Festival(s) will be held April 12-13 at the Cornerstone Community Center in Green Bay.

Players from both birth years will be selected from one WAHA combined birth year festival or two birth year festivals to compete in the USA Hockey Central District Player Development Festivals. One or two festivals depends on total player tryout numbers.

All WAHA Select Festival teams will have a three game round robin format. Selected player for all festivals will be posted with group reporting times at www.wahahockey.com after the selected players receive and complete online registration instructions following the WAHA super site tryout. Online registration will confirm the player’s spot in the WAHA festival.  

STEP 3 - USA HOCKEY CENTRAL DISTRICT PLAYER DEVELOPMENT SELECT 15, 16 & 17 FESTIVALS AT FOND DU LAC, WI.
Players will be selected from the WAHA 1999, 1998 and 1997 birth year festival(s) to go on to the USA Hockey Central District Player Development Festival held at Fond du Lac, WI on May 2-4. Players selected will be posted on www.centraldistricthockey.org.  

USA HOCKEY CENTRAL DISTRICT SELECT 14 ELITE CAMP (2000 Birth Year)
Wisconsin 2000 birth year or the select 14 players will be selected directly from the WAHA Select 14 Festival in Green Bay to compete in the USA Hockey Central District Select 14 Elite Camp at Ames, IA on June 15-20. Wisconsin players will join players from Illinois, Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska to compete at the Central District level and will be evaluated by USA Hockey evaluators and their individual player evaluations will be kept on file at USA Hockey headquarters in Colorado Springs.
 
STEP 4 – USA HOCKEY NATIONAL SELECT 15, 16 and 17 CAMPS (Birth Years 1999, 1998, and 1997 respectively)
The names of the players chosen to compete in the USA Hockey National Select 15, 16,17 Player Development Camps will be posted on www.centraldistricthockey.org following the USA Hockey Central District Player Development Festival in Fond du Lac on May 2-4. All USA Hockey National Player Development Camps will be held at North Town Center at Amherst (Williamsville, NY): Select 15 (July 14-20), Select 16 (July 7-13), Select 17 (June 26-July 2).

A player must go through the entire tryout process in Wisconsin to be eligible for the USA Hockey Central District Festivals, Central District Select 14 Camp and National Select 15, 16, and 17 Development Camps.
