Step 1 - WHAT ARE THE BANTAM AND MIDGET TRYOUTS?
In March, Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association will conduct tryouts to select players to compete in the WAHA Bantam and Midget Festivals. There are two Super sites for Bantams and seven geographical sites for Midgets. See the locations and dates listed below. WAHA festivals provide a great opportunity for a player to develop as one of the best players in the state and also be identified in Wisconsin Select Camps and  USA Hockey Central District Festivals/Camps, which can ultimately lead to a spot at the USA Hockey National Summer Development Camps. See Step 2 for more details on WAHA festivals.

There are four (4) separate WAHA Festivals by birth year:
    1998 Bantam Minor
    1997 Bantam Major
    1996 Midget Minor
    1995 Midget Major

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN TRYOUTS?
  • Players born in 1995-1998
  • Parents must be legal residents of State of Wisconsin
  • Players must be United States citizens

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE BANTAM/MIDGET SKATER TRYOUTS?  HOW DO I REGISTER AND WHEN?
  • Registration, which is only available online, opens January 31st at wahahockey.com.
  • Skaters can only register for one tryout.
  • Tryout fee is $65 - includes ice time and jersey.
  • Debit card, credit card or a gift card must be used (No cash or checks).
  • Participants registering must have a 2011-12 USA Hockey membership number or must register for one through USA Hockey at a fee of $40. Go to www.wahahockey.com to register.
  • Bantams will have four sessions to choose from:
      Saturday March 24
        8:30am - 12:30pm
        1:30pm - 5:30pm
      Sunday March 25
        8:30am - 12:30pm
        1:30pm - 5:30pm
    These sessions will be for players born in 1997 and 1998. Each birth year will tryout separately. Players may only tryout in one session.
  • Midgets will tryout from either 6:00-8:00pm or 7:00-9:00pm (depending on location selected) with 1995 & 1996 birth year players trying out together.
  • No refunds will be made once you have registered for a tryout location and time.
  • Registration for each tryout location will be limited by position.
  • Skaters must tryout for the position (defense or forward) they register for-No exceptions.
  • Players will be drafted from the tryouts to participate in the festivals
  • Those selected for the festivals will be contacted by email after the final tryout at their level. To accept they must register for the respective festivals (www.wahahockey.com) immediately upon notification.

WHAT ARE THE GOALTENDER ONLY TRYOUTS AND HOW DO I REGISTER?
There are six (6) goalie–only tryouts for Midgets born in 1995-96. Bantam goalies born in 1997-1998 will tryout at the Super sites on March 24 or 25.
  • Midget goalie tryouts will take place before the skater tryouts.
  • Online Registration only opens January 31st at www.wahahockey.com.
  • Register for one tryout only.
  • Tryout fee is $40 for Midgets and $65 for Bantams which includes ice time and jersey (no refunds).
  • Use debit card, credit card or a gift card (No checks or cash).
  • Participants registering must have a 2011-12 USA Hockey membership number or must register for one through USA Hockey for a $40 fee. Go to www.usahockey.com to register.
  • Midget goalie tryouts will be from either 7:00-9:00pm or 8:00-10:00pm (depending on selected location) for 1995 & 1996 born players (both birth years will be combined for the tryout).
  • Bantam goalie tryouts will be for 1997 & 1998 born players will be during the Super site tryouts on March 24 and 25. Goalies will tryout in separate birth year tryouts.
  • Registration numbers at each of the six (6) Midget tryout locations and two Bantam locations will be limited.
  • No refunds will be made once you have registered for a tryout session.
  • When the  last Midget goalie tryout is over, goalies will be selected and assigned to each of the seven Midget skater tryouts. A total of 21-28 Midget goalies will be selected to participate in the skater tryouts. Notification will be by email.
  • Goalies selected to participate in the Midget skater tryouts will be assigned a location and must register online (www.wahahockey.com) and pay the tryout fee of $40.

Step 2 – WHAT IF YOU ARE SELECTED FOR THE BANTAM/MIDGET FESTIVALS?
Players selected from the tryouts to participate in the Bantam/Midget Festivals will be contacted after the final tryout date. On-line registration (www.wahahockey.com) must occur to accept the invitation to play in a festival. The cost to participate in the WAHA Festivals is $125. Players will receive and be able to keep their jersey and socks.

BANTAMS
There are two separate Bantam Festivals: one for skaters born in 1997 and one for skaters born in 1998.  Each birth year festival will include (4) teams of 17 players (2 goalies, 6 defenseman, and 9 forwards). All eight (8) birth year festival teams will be drafted after the tryouts on March 24 & 25 from the total players at the Super site tryouts. Both Bantam Festivals will be held at the Cornerstone Community Center in Green Bay on April 14-15. Players from 1998 birth year will be selected to compete at the USA Hockey Central District Bantam Elite Camp June 18-22 at Ames, IA. 

Players born in 1997 (Bantam majors) will be selected to compete in the USA Hockey Central District Development Festival in Fond du Lac, WI.

Players born in 1997 (Bantam majors) will be selected out of the Central District Development Festival to attend the USA Hockey National Player Development 15 Camp.

MIDGETS
There are two separate WAHA Midget Festivals: one for skaters born in 1995 and one for skaters born in 1996. Each birth year festival will include (4) teams of 17 players (2 goalies, 6 defenseman, and 9 forwards). All eight (8) birth year festival teams will be drafted on March 19th from the total players that participated in the Midget tryouts. Both Midget festivals will be held at the Hobbs Ice Arena in Eau Claire on March 24 & 25. Players from both birth years will be selected from these festivals to compete in the USA Hockey Central District Player Development Festivals for 16 and 17 year olds. Midget player families should reserve hotel lodging as soon as possible after they have been notified.

All festival teams will have a three game round robin format. Player names for all festivals will be posted with group reporting times at www.wahahockey.com and each player will receive an email with instructions within 24 hours after the listed draft date.

Step 3 - USA HOCKEY CENTRAL DISTRICT PLAYER DEVELOPMENT FESTIVALS AT FOND DU LAC
Players will be selected from the WAHA 1997, 1996 and 1995 birth year Bantam and Midget Festivals to go on to the Select 15, 16, and 17 USA Hockey Central District Player Development Festivals held at Fond du Lac, WI on May 11-13, 2012. Players selected will be announced on www.wahahockey.com, www.AHAI.org, and www.centraldistricthockey.org following the WAHA festivals.

USA HOCKEY CENTRAL DISTRICT SELECT 14 ELITE CAMP AT AMES, IA
Wisconsin 1998 birth year will be selected directly from the WAHA Bantam Festival in Green Bay to compete in the USA Hockey Central District Select 14 Elite Camp at Ames, IA on June 18-22. Wisconsin players will join players from Illinois, Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska. They will be evaluated by USA Hockey evaluators and will receive an individual profile at the end of camp.

Step 4 – USA HOCKEY SELECT 15, 16 and 17 NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT CAMPS (1997, 1996, and 1995 Birth Years)
The names of the players chosen to compete in the Select 15, 16, and 17 USA Hockey National Player Development Camps will be posted on www.wahahockey.com, www.AHAI.com, and www.centraldistricthockey.org following the USA Hockey Central District Player Development Festival in Fond du Lac in May. All USA Hockey Select National Player Development Camps will be held in Rochester, NY. The Select 15 Camp will be June 17-22, the Select 16 Camp will be July 7-13 and the Select 17 Camp will be June 23-28.

A player must go through the entire tryout process in Wisconsin to be eligible for the USA Hockey Central District Festival and National Select 15, 16, and 17 Development Camps.
