Step 1 - WHAT ARE THE BANTAM AND MIDGET TRYOUTS?

In March, Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association will conduct tryouts to select players to compete in the WAHA Bantam and Midget Festivals. There are eight geographical tryouts for bantams and seven geographical tryouts for midgets. State festivals provide a great opportunity for a player to develop as one of the best players in the state and also be identified in Wisconsin Select Camps and USA Hockey Central District Festivals/Camps, which can ultimately lead to a spot at the USA Hockey National Summer Development Camps. There are four (4) separate WAHA Festivals by birth year:

1996 Bantam Minor        1995 Bantam Major

1994 Midget Minor          1993 Midget Major

 

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN TRYOUTS?

·      Players born in 1993-1996

·      Parents must be legal residents of State of Wisconsin

·      Players must be United States citizens

 

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE BANTAM/MIDGET SKATER TRYOUTS?  HOW DO I REGISTER AND WHEN?

·      Registration, which is only available online, opens January 29th at wahahockey.com.

·      Players can only register for ONE tryout

·      Tryout fee is $65 - includes ice time and jersey (no refunds)

·      Use debit card, credit card or a gift card (No cash or checks)  

·      Participants registering must have a 2009-10 USA Hockey membership number or must register for one through USA Hockey at a fee of $40. Go to www.usahockey.com to register

·      Bantams will tryout from 6:00–8:00 pm with 1995 & 1996 birth year players trying out together

·      Midgets will tryout from 8:00–10:00 pm with 1993 & 1994 birth year players trying out together

·      Registration for each tryout location will be limited by position

·      Skaters must tryout for the position (D or F) they register for-No exceptions

·      Players will be selected from the tryouts to participate in the festivals

·      Those selected for the WAHA Festivals will be contacted by email after the final tryout for their level. Midgets will be notified on March 20 and bantams will be notified on March 23. Online registration for the respective festivals (at wahahockey.com) must occur immediately upon notification.

 

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT GOALTENDER ONLY TRYOUTS, HOW DO I REGISTER AND WHEN?

There are five (5) goalie–only tryouts for players born in 1993-96.

·      All goalie tryouts take place before the skater tryouts

·      Online Registration only opens January 29th at wahahockey.com

·      Register for one tryout only

·      Tryout fee is $40 which includes ice time and jersey (no refunds)

·      Use debit card, credit card or a gift card (No checks or cash)

·      Participants registering must have a 2009-10 USA Hockey membership number or must register for one through USA Hockey for a $40 fee. Go to www.usahockey.com to register

·      Goalie tryouts will be from 6:00-7:30 pm for 1995 & 1996 born players (both birth years will be combined for the tryout).

·      Goalie tryouts will be from 7:45-9:15 pm for 1993 & 1994 born players (both birth years will be combined for the tryout)

·      Registration numbers at each of the five (5) tryout locations will be limited

·      When the last tryout is over, goalies will be selected and assigned to each of the eight bantam skater tryouts and each of the seven midget skater tryouts. A total of 24-32 bantam goalies and 21-28 midget goalies will be selected to participate in the skater tryouts.

·      Notifications will be by email.    

·      Selected goalies must register for their assigned skater tryout using online registration at www.wahahockey.com. The fee is $40 for goalies only.  

Team Wisconsin 16U & 18U goalies will be selected from the 2009 and 2010 Festival teams.

 Step 2 – WHAT IF YOU ARE SELECTED FOR THE WAHA BANTAM/MIDGET FESTIVALS?

Players are selected for each of the four festival teams by birth year. Player drafts have been scheduled for the evening of March 19th for the midgets and the evening of March 22nd for the bantams. Within 24 hours of the draft, each player will receive an email from WAHA with instructions to complete their online registration/payment at www.wahahockey.com and thus accepting to play in the WAHA Bantam or Midget Festival. After online registration is complete, player’s names will be posted on the website with group reporting times. All festivals will use a three game round robin format. The cost to participate in the WAHA Bantam or Midget Festivals is $125. Player families should reserve hotel lodging for the festival as soon as possible. Note that midget players will be notified on March 20th and the festival is on March 27-28. Players will receive and keep their jersey and socks. Players will move on from the festivals to the USA Hockey Central District Festival and or summer camps. See step 3 for more details on camps and central district festivals.

 

BANTAMS

There are two separate WAHA Bantams Festivals: one for skaters born in 1996 and one for skaters born in 1995.  Each birth year festival will feature sixty eight players or 4 teams of 17 players (2 goalies, 6 defenseman, and 9 forwards). One hundred thirty six players (68 are born in 1995 and 68 are born in 1996) will be drafted on the evening of March 22 from the total number of players that participated in the bantam skater tryouts. WAHA will notify players selected by email. Once all of the players have completed their online festival registration/payment, the player names will be posted on www.wahahockey.com. Player families should obtain lodging as soon as possible. Note that there are no festival activities Friday evening. Both bantam birth year festivals will be held at the Cornerstone Community Center at Green Bay on Saturday and Sunday April 17-18 on separate sheets of ice.  

 

MIDGETS

There are separate WAHA Midgets Festivals: one for skaters born in 1993 and one for skaters born in 1994. Each birth year festival will include four teams of 17 players (2 goalies, 6 defenseman, and 9 forwards). One hundred thirty six players (68 born in 1993 and 68 born in 1994) will be drafted on the evening of March 19 from the total players that participated in the midget tryouts. WAHA will notify the players selected by email. Once all of the players have completed their online festival payment, the player’s names will be posted on www.wahahockey.com. Midget player families should reserve hotel lodging as soon as possible because they will be notified on March 20 and the festival is on March 27-28. Note that there are no festival activities on Friday evening. Both WAHA Midget birth year festivals will be held at the Hobbs Ice Arena at Eau Claire on Saturday and Sunday March 27-28 on separate sheets of ice.

 

Step 3 – WHAT IF YOU ARE SELECTED TO A USA HOCKEY CENTRAL DISTRICT SELECT 15, 16 OR 17 FESTIVAL AT FOND DU LAC, WI MAY 7-9?

A total of sixty players - twenty players (2 goalies, 7 defenseman, and 11 forwards) selected from each of the WAHA 1995, 1994 and 1993 birth year festivals to attend the USA Hockey Central District Festival in Fond du Lac on May 7-9. Festival players from Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Wisconsin will compete to go to the USA Hockey National Select 15, 16, and 17 National Summer Festivals. Wisconsin players will be notified by WAHA. Once all of the players have registered and made payment to the central district, the names will be posted on www.wahahockey.com and www.AHAI.org. All player registrations and payments will be handled by USA Hockey Central District. The cost per player is $125. See step 4 for more details on the USA Hockey Select National Summer Festivals.

 

USA HOCKEY CENTRAL DISTRICT SELECT 14 CAMP AT AMES, IA JUNE 20-25

Approximately twenty eight (28) players (4 goalies, 9 defenseman, and 15 forwards) will be selected from the WAHA 1996 birth year festival on April 17-18 at Green Bay to go directly to the USA Hockey Central District Select 14 Summer Camp on June 20-25 at Ames, Iowa. Ninety (90) camp players will represent Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. This is a player development camp and a USA Hockey tryout to go on to USA Hockey Select 14 National Summer Festival. Wisconsin players that are selected will be notified by WAHA. All camp registration and payment instructions will be handled by USA Hockey Central District. The names will be posted on www.wahahockey.com and www.AHAI.org after all players have registered and paid. See step 4 for more details on the USA Hockey Select 14 National Summer Festival.

 

WAHA SELECT 15 HIGH PERFORMANCE CAMP AT OREGON, WI JULY 9-11

New this year, WAHA will have a high performance camp for 15 year olds (birth year 1995) at Oregon, WI on July 9-11. The camp will host fifty four (54) players who will be selected from the list of players who attend the WAHA Bantam Festival in Green Bay. A total of 20 defense, 28 forwards and 6 goalies will participate. Players will receive specialized classrooms and on ice sessions for goalies, defenseman, and forwards. They will have the opportunity to learn from top quality coaches and increase their individual skills, game development, off ice training, and knowledge about their position. WAHA will notify selected players by email. Once all of the players have completed their online camp registration and made their payment, the names of those participating will be posted on www.wahahockey.com.

   

Step 4 – WHAT IF YOU ARE SELECTED TO THE USA HOCKEY NATIONAL SELECT 14, 15, 16 or 17 SUMMER CAMPS AT ROCHESTER, NY?

The names of the players selected to participate in the USA Hockey National Summer Development Camps will be posted on www.wahahockey.com and www.AHAI.com following the USA Hockey Central District Festival at Fond du Lac on May 7-9. Central district will select

·      twenty one players (2G, 7D, & 12F) to the National Select 15 Camp on July 15-21

·      nineteen players (2G, 6D & 11F) to the National Select 16 Camp on June 24-30

·      thirteen players (1G, 4D & 8F) to the National Select 17 Camp on July 7-13.

USA Hockey will handle all the communication with the players.   

 

USA HOCKEY NATIONAL SELECT 14 SUMMER CAMP AT ROCHESTER, NY JULY 8-14

Twenty eight players (28) from Wisconsin will be selected directly from the WAHA Bantam Festival held at Green Bay on April 17-18 to attend the USA Hockey Central District Select 14 Camp. The camp will include 90 players from six states (Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Wisconsin) and will be held at Ames, Iowa on June 20-25. Twenty one players (2G, 7D & 12F) will be selected from this camp to attend the USA Hockey National Select 14 Development Camp in Rochester New York on July 8-14. USA Hockey will handle all communication with the players.

 

A player must go through the entire tryout process in Wisconsin to be eligible for the USA Hockey Central District Festival and National Select 14, 15, 16, and 17 Development Camps.
